MDL, operating in India, currently has 22000 panels - a deployment with largest panel members in the world, collecting representative data from urban and rural corners of India. MDL uses indigenously manufactured sophisticated Bar-o-meters, beaming data through GSM networks for real-time collection. A network of field-staff, an array of electronic equipment and a robust Information Technology backbone supports the data collection. The indigenously manufactured Bar-o-meters cost 1/6th of the imported ones, and this significant cost advantage allows MDL to scale up its deployment speedily. MDL is looking at a massive network of 55,000 panel homes by the year 2019.The collected data is processed by BARC India to offer media companies in India, valuable insight on Television watching patterns, habits and trends—that aids their decisions on programming, advertising and airing.
